Choosing sellers and items when the parcel still has to travel

The seller check is yours, and so is the shape of the parcel you are building. Both are easier to get right while you are still shopping.

How to judge a seller before the agent pays

The agent buys from whichever seller you point it at, so the seller check is yours. On Taobao and Tmall, look at the shop's age, its ratings and the number of recent sales, and read a few low-star reviews to see what goes wrong. On 1688, the wholesale site, check whether the seller makes the goods or trades them and whether there is a minimum order quantity. Weidian shops often show little or no review history, so photos and a direct question to the seller count for more there.

Good signs: real photos rather than catalogue renders, a size chart in centimetres, answers to questions within a day, and a listing that has been up for a while. Weak signs: a price far below every similar listing, stock photos copied across many shops, and a seller who will not answer through the agent.

How kinds of items behave in a parcel.

How to choose an item that ships well

Some items are easy passengers and some are not. Clothing in soft fabrics, small accessories and flat goods travel on every lane and add little weight. Bulky items, such as down jackets, boxed trainers and structured bags, are charged on volume on many lines, which pushes the freight up or the lane towards rail and sea. Dense items, such as metal jewellery and belts with heavy buckles, are charged on weight.

Then there are the restricted ones. Anything with a battery, any liquid, any aerosol and most cosmetics cut down the list of lines, and some will be refused outright on air express. Fragile items need added packing, and on weight-based compensation a broken one may not be covered.

A good habit is to picture the packed parcel while you shop: how big, how heavy, and what is inside that a carrier might refuse.

Shopping mistakes that show up at the freight stage

Most expensive mistakes are made at the shopping stage but only noticed when the parcel is submitted. The common ones are worth avoiding on purpose.

  • Mixing one restricted item into a big haul. One power bank can take most air lines off the menu for the whole parcel. Ship it separately or leave it.
  • Keeping every box. Shoe boxes and gift boxes can double the volume. Decide at the photo stage.
  • Letting the free storage run out. Items bought early can pass the free period while you wait for the last one; LoongBuy charges daily by weight after 90 days.
  • Choosing a slow lane for a light parcel. Rail and sea save little on small hauls and cost weeks.
  • Trusting an old guide on lanes. The postal lane to the EU, for example, was suspended at LoongBuy in June 2026.
  • Ordering logo-heavy listings. Agents refuse many of them and customs can seize them; this site's catalogue shelves avoid them for that reason.

None of these needs special knowledge, only a pause before you press submit.
